Abstract
The article examines the contribution of tourism to sustainable development and environmental conservation in protected natural areas. The interrelationship between tourism and nature conservation, as well as their impacts on the economy, society, and environment, is analyzed in the context of 21st-century tourism development and global trends. Based on international and regional regulatory frameworks, such as the Stockholm Conference (1972), the UN Rio Conventions (1992), Council Directives 79/409/EEC and 92/43/EEC, and the Natura 2000 network, the study explores the establishment and management of protected areas. Furthermore, the article highlights the significance of tourism-generated revenues for the socio-economic development of surrounding communities and the achievement of ecological objectives. The research demonstrates how information, knowledge, and intelligent governance can contribute to the balanced growth of sustainable tourism.
The article emphasizes the necessity of scientifically informed decision-making for the creation and management of additional protected areas to achieve at least 30% coverage of terrestrial and marine areas by 2030, in line with Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework’s 30x30 initiative.
This study serves as a valuable scientific resource for managing tourism in protected natural areas, developing sustainable development strategies, and promoting collaboration with local communities.
